Your Sister in the Gospel brilliantly recreates the world of Jane Manning James, a remarkable nineteenth-century
black woman who converted to Mormonism, worked in Joseph Smith's house, and migrated to Utah. This fascinating story
greatly enlarges our understanding of what was possible for people of Jane's race and gender in her generation.
